At YP, we studied Andrew and Peter. We read these verses…

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).
John 1 v 40-42

Now immediately I thought that Simon and Ben would talk about how much we talk to our non- Christian friends, as that is what everyone usually talks about when looking at these verses.
But this is the jist of what they said.
When we think about Peter, we can think of many instances, and actions that Peter did and said, and we can think of the 2 books of the Bible which he wrote, and think about him at Pentecost, and we think,” Wow what a great apostle, and what a speaker for Christ!” But if we think about Andrew, we can’t say much about him at all. He was more in the background. And yet, it was Andrew that brought Peter to Christ. If there wasn’t any Andrew, then there wasn’t any Peter either. We often just overlook Andrew. And that can sometimes happen in the church.

But, ya know that people have different personalities. Some people do things that everyone notices, like organizing etc. Sometimes in the church you are doing things that no one notices. If you give up afternoons to visit old dears, if you are always washing up in the kitchen after yp or the services or community lunch etc. But just coz people don’t notice you doesn’t mean that God doesn’t notice. You are doing these things for his glory, not for other people to look and praise you for. Like Andrew, we can be a bit of a background person, and no-body says anything about us, but… IT DOESN’T MATTER. God sees what you do and sees your motives. And he rewards justly to his servants.

I found their talk really encouraging, and I (hope!) that you will too. :D
